New Upcoming Presentation and Workshop Title:
Solution Focused Narrative Therapy:
Writing Success Stories
For years, I have used the solution focused approach with every client I saw as a therapist. Quick, efficient and helpful, the approach was all about action. I also used the narrative approach, as I found its ideas about re-authoring, pleasant and reassuring to clients. Slowly, I noticed myself integrating the two. Together, the solution focused question pushed the narrative process into action. The narrative process added emotions and descriptions that guided my clients into those new actions.
The result? SFNT
This workshop will cover the basic ideas of both models as well as a blending of strategies into a model that is rich in dialogue yet full of action and progress.
The workshop will utilize:
video case studies
diagrams of timelines
movie clips for clarity
Below are three traditional, top workshops I am currently presenting on in the United States and abroad. Do not hesitate to call me at 817-690-2229 for information on how I can help you to create the school your teachers and students deserve.

A workshop based on both Counseling Toward Solutions, Parenting Toward Solutions and The Miracle Question. This workshop can be tailored for parents or school staff members to provide unique and refreshing approaches to challenging situations that prevent people from being optimistic about their future. This workshop utilizes narrative therapy, and integrates it with solution-focused therapy to provide a warm and collaborative methodology for helping clients deal with trauma, grief and loss, abuse, and hopelessness. Participants will practice the approach, and gain useful knowledge and learn steps to take to keep clients on track to solutions instead of dwelling on past traumatic events.
Participants will learn methods of helping students and parents step out of stories written for them by others into a new story authored by themselves. This rich opportunity, accompanied by drawings and lists of possibilities is used by Dr. Metcalf with clients dealing with sexual abuse and physical abuse. The typical results are amazing, with clients terminating therapy within three to four sessions. Narrative therapy is a cousin of solution focused therapy and Dr. Metcalf uses the solution focused approach to push the narrative approach into action!
